Our First Giveaway!!!

Happy November everyone!

I am so so so excited to be able to announce The Goodbyn Girls' VERY FIRST GIVEAWAY! That is right! In honor of our "grand opening" we have decided to giveaway a Goodbyn to one of our lucky readers!
So... how exactly can you get your lovely hands on a fun new way to pack your lunch? Simple... Our first challenge: The 3 Cs!

So here's how it works:
  • Have fun packing your lunch bento-style. I am not saying you need to already have a goodbyn to participate in the challenge. There are tons of ways to pack a lunch bento style. Think of a Japanese bento box. When we originally started planning this blog I didn't have a Goodbyn myself, but I had several glass pyrex storage containers that I used to pack my DH's lunch in. I still considered it "bento style." Basically, think "inside the box" (bahahaha!) and try to make it as eco-friendly as you can! Let's see how creative you can be!
  • Your bento lunch must include each of the 3 Cs: Cucumber, Carrots, and Cheese.
  • Take a photo of your bento lunch and post a link to it using the button at the bottom of this post. It can be a blog entry, a facebook photo (please use the "public link" found at the very bottom of the page when linking us to a FB photo so that we can see it regardless of your privacy settings/whether or not we have facebook ourselves); or whatever else you can think of - if we can see it, you get an entry!
  • Post your the link here before 1 December, 2010, after which we will be doing a random drawing from all entries.  There will only be 1 entry per person.  Thanks!
Easy enough, hey? Let your creativity flow and have fun with this challenge! We can't wait to see what you come up with. Don't live in the US? Don't worry, neither to I (or Georgina or Stacy! lol). Please participate. If you live on the Earth you can participate in this challenge! We are willing to ship it anywhere. And to help get your creative juices flowing - here are some examples from the lovely Lunch Bunch!

  5. I have a question! Do you just eat whatever is in your lunch cold? Like the ravioli.

  6. Thanks for the question Kim. I'll let the others answer for themselves, but for my family . . . we prepare our lunches in the mornings, so anything that is actually cooked goes in the Goodbyn hot. My children eat fairly early so they are never dealing with "refrigerator" cold bentos.

The cold food is probably not going to be as cold (or the hot food as hot) when lunches are first prepared . . . but they weren't room temperature either. I also try to prepare foods that I think will fare well in an uninsulated lunchbox.

  7. Hi everyone, Erin here from Goodbyn... About the cooling question. We suggest prepping lunch the night before and storing it in the fridge overnight. You can also use the small rubbermaid (like 1"x2.5")ice packs - these can be found at the larger retail stores like target. We also suggest freezing the drink bottle halfway, topping it off in the morning and it serves to cool the byn.
    Hope this helps!

  8. Kim, I generally prepare my meals the day before, and so the foo that is actually packed in my goodbyn I try to make something that will be good cold. If there is something I want to send with DH that needs to be warmed up in the microwave I will put it inside a glass container and either send it alongside the Goodbyn, or, depending on what it is - I have a few glass containers that fit inside the Goodbyn and my DH can just lift it out and heat it up. That way, he doesn't have to worry about forgetting a container at work - he can just plop it right back in his bento. This works best for us because my DH doesn't have a scheduled lunch break and sometimes eats quite late in the afternoon.

  9. My son is the pasta freak of the family and he likes his cold. If I am inluding something that needs to stay really hot, I just add a thermos into the mix. I would like to add that we have had our Goodbyn for a year now and with all of that tomato sauce, it has NOT discoloured or stained at all!!

  12. I always make my lunch the night before - usually with left overs from dinner. I put it in the fridge and leave it overnight, then grab it about 7.30am put it in my bag and its off to work I go (hi ho!) I eat lunch at 1pm and its still perfectly fine, in the summer I filled the juice carton with a drink that I placed in the freezer overnight - it kept the box cool all day. I always eat pasta's, rice etc cold. Yummy!
